Pul seeks permanent High Court in state

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Emphasising for establishment of a permanent High Court in the state capital, Chief Minister Kalikho Pul informed that handing over of land for construction of permanent High Court Complex is in process.

Pul was discussing with the Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court, Ajit Singh on issues pertaining to construction of permanent High Court Complex and development of Judiciary in the state in a meeting at the CM bungalow on Friday evening.

Chief Minister Pul added that the state govt has instructed the PWD to hand over the entire State Guest House complex at Naharlagun along with all existing structures to the Law & Judicial Department on as-is-where-is basis at the earliest.

Given the fund constraints, the state govt. is exploring possibility of getting financial assistance from the Planning Commission or the DoNER Ministry for setting up of permanent High Court Complex and the state govt has approached the Niti Ayog for approving the same. He asked the Chief Secretary incharge to submit the Detail Project Report (DPR) for construction of permanent High Court Complex immediately.

While agreeing to give full cooperation for development of judiciary system in the state, Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court, Justice Ajit Singh said that he will write to the Central govt for funding of the construction of Permanent High Court Complex in the state capital.

Justice Singh further said that the state govt has the liberty to go on with its policy on rational transfer and posting of govt officers in public interest saying that court will not interfere in the matter of transfer and posting of govt officers and officials done in public interest.

Further updating on the judicial initiatives of the state government, CM Pul added that to facilitate justice on women and gender equity, Gazette Notification pertaining to Gender Sensitization and Sexual Harassment of Women has already been published in the state gazetteer and Local Complaints Committees have been constituted in 10 out of the 21 districts of the state, while in others, it is in process.

He also informed that to further strengthen the judiciary system, the state govt is going to create nine additional posts of Judicial Officers along with 99 posts of subordinate staffs at Subordinate judiciary as submitted by the State Empowered Committee.

Recruitment process for the newly created posts of Judicial Officer, Grade - I as Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority and Registrar, Guwahati High Court, Itanagar Bench has already been initiated by the High Court.

State govt is accommodating former Additional District & Sessions Judges in Grade-I of Arunachal Pradesh Judicial Services and advertisement in this regard has been made, said the Chief Minister which is as per the Guwahati High Court judgment on 19.01.2016 passed in Writ Petition No. 776/2013.

The Chief Minister further informed that at present there is one Observation Home at Pasighat in East Siang District, with a capacity of 28 persons ( 20 boys and 8 girls). He informed that proposal was submitted to the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Govt of India for construction of Observation Homes in 9 more districts, out of which 6 have been sanctioned for Papum Pare, Changlang, East Kameng, Lower Subansiri, West Siang and Anjaw.

The state govt is working on draft Civil Courts Bill received from the Guwahati High Court Registry. It is being revised and modified to include the customary courts as one of the civil nature, especially in the villages where customary courts play a pivotal role in the disposal of cases. Views from the Advocate General, Additional Advocate General, Deputy Commissioners, Additional Deputy Commissioners and the apex bodies of all communities have been sought in this regard. The suggestions from them will be synthesized and incorporated in the Bill before placing it in the Assembly, Pul said.

Responding to the proposals submitted for appointment of Prosecutors and creation of various posts for speedy disposal of cases, Chief Minister said that it is under examination and committed public prosecutor will be appointed soon to hear the cases for early disposal. He also said to release the arrear grants for NEJOTI soon.

Chief Justice was accompanied by Justice Suman Shyam, Judge, H K Sharma, Registrar General, Raktim Duarah, Registrar cum Principal Secretary to Chief Justice, P B Dutta, Joint Registrar, Itanagar Bench and R N Burman, Deputy Registrar.

Power Minister, Tenzing Norbu Thongdok, Parliamentary Secretary for Power, Tapuk Taku, Chief Secretary incharge and Principal Secretary (Finance), Satya Gopal and Secretary (Protocal), Dani Salu were also present in the meeting.

CM asks Power Dept to clear liabilities, questions inflated schemes by engineers

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: In what must have been an extremely awkward moment for the department engineers, Chief Minister Kalikho Pul pointed out that the power department had Rs 121 crore liabilities. He said this while addressing a coordination meeting of departments of Power, Hydropower and APEDA, CM to review the power situation across the state.

CM urged the department to clear its liabilities first as well as timely payment of electricity, water and telephone bills.

Chief Minister asked the officials to propose a comprehensive scheme to reduce Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses and raise revenue collection including 100% metering of all consumers.

Lamenting the poor service of the power department, the CM pointed out that three departments of civil power, E&M and hydropower were lacking proper coordination. He advised them to have proper understanding of the technical problems so that proper diagnosis can be made.

CM pointed out that the department should focus on its duty to provide power to people and not waste government funds with proposals that are not viable.

He reminded that engineers and politicians have earned a bad name in society for corruption and urged to work with honesty to earn back the respect.

Also stressing on reducing wastage of funds in the name of maintenance, the CM urged to follow proper guidelines. He asked the officials to submit photographic documents, while preparing proposal with all the details of damages, and after the completion of the work.

Pointing out the corrupt practice adopted by the engineers in preparing proposals, the CM observed that estimate submitted for hydel projects were all flawed. For example, where the potential site could produce only 6MW, the engineers had estimated it over 60MW, he said.

Also the cost estimates are inflated, pointing out that proposals per MW were estimated at Rs 20-22 crore.

The CM said it was a matter of shame for qualified engineers to see such false proposals being submitted adding that "personal development can wait" but public service could never be compromised.

On development of small hydro projects for administrative centres across the state, the CM said the priority to be given where there is no power and other centres where there is power could wait. Also he asked to identify the hydel power stations that could be maintained and that are completely defunct, and urged the officials to submit concept paper accordingly.

The CM also asked the department to explore possibility for installation of floating turbine saying that it involved no civil works and is cheap way of producing electricity.

He stressed on giving power to administrative centres with schools, hospitals and colleges.

Urging the department not to succumb to pressure from vested interests, he said many earlier projects had gone waste because of wrong planning and because of wrong intentions.

He announced that the completion date of 132 KV Aalo-Pasighat transmissions is fixed on December 31, 2016. (PRO)

APEX bank NACH/DBT enabled

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Apex Bank MD, T Thongdok on Saturday announced that the Apex Bank has been National Automated Clearing House (NACH) and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) enabled which will help customers receive the subsidy of cooking gas and food, old age pension, student stipend.

He said this while addressing the inaugural function of a 3 day-long review meeting of the Apex Bank at ATI, Naharlagun which was attended by the Branch Managers and officials from head office of the bank.

Thongdok also informed that the bank is implementing GoI Social Security Schemes like PMJDY, PMJJBY, APY, PMSBY besides, state government flagship programme in Tourist, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, NSTFDC etc.

'ATM card is also being issued for PMJDY account holders and the bank is planning to cover all the unbanked sub-service areas through its Micro-ATM and Fixed Customers Service Points, he said. He further disclosed that the bank will go for dairy development by organizing Dairy Cooperative Societies and issue 10000 Kisan Credit Cards during the current financial year through the Large Sized Multipurpose Coop. Societies at concessional rates.

Secretary (Coop.), Nani Mali in his address suggested the Bank to adopt latest technology in banking sector and provide services in the rural and unbanked areas of the state for which state government is ready to provide support to the bank.

He also agreed to help the bank by conducting internal audit through the departmental Auditors and Inspectors.

Joint RCS, R D Thungon also suggested streamlining the accounting procedure and submitting the returns to regulatory authorities on time. He also said that bank should improve its NPA position by recovering the loans with the help of state machineries.

RCS-Cum-Administrator, Rinchin Tashi and ATI Director, Pate Marik also spoke on the occasion.

Vets urged to equip with latest skills

World Veterinary Day

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Arunachal Pradesh Veterinary Association (APVA) celebrated World Veterinary Day with a two days programme by holding farmers' interaction and awareness programme on National Livestock Mission, free treatment and vaccination of livestock at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Ganga on April 29 and 30.

Altogether, 260 domestic animals were treated, 26 spayed and 110 dogs given anti-rabies vaccine during the two days programme.

Theme for this year's celebration was "Continuing Education with a One Health Focus."

Addressing the vets/field officers on the occasion, Joint Director, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Dr. ND Minto urged them to be proactive and equip themselves with latest technical knowledge to face the challenges in treating various types of diseases in animals. He gave emphasis on mass awareness campaign involving NGOs to control diseases in livestock.

Vice president, State Veterinary Commission Dr K Basar strongly advocated for timely vaccination of domestic animals. He urged the pet owners to get their animals vaccinated with recommended dosages and at correct interval of time and complete the course.

More than 200 pet owners turned up along with their pet animals for vaccination and treatment.

DVO Papum Pare Dr Minge Loyi also spoke on the occasion.

The day was celebrated in collaboration with State Veterinary Council and Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary & Dairy Development.

Gruesome murder at Pachin colony

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: A gruesome murder was committed at Pachin Colony Naharlagun on Friday evening, said police.

Deceased has been identified as Radi Tallang(35) son of late Biram Tallang, village Tallang under Seppa circle of East Kameng.

His body was reportedly found near Catholic Church of the Colony, police added. Police further informed that deceased had multiple injury marks as well as the throat sliced, which appeared to have been commissioned with a lethal weapon.

"We got information on sighting of the body around 9. 30 AM. Prima facie, it appears to be a murder case" said a police officer.

He further informed that a murder case against unknown person has been registered with Naharlagun Police station. Police added that a massive investigation has been started to round up the culprits. After post mortem at Tomo Riba State Hospital, Naharlagun, body of late Radi Tallang was handed over to the relatives for final rites.

Meanwhile, expressing shock at gruesome murder of late Radi Tallang, All East Kameng Students' Union (AEKSU) has mourned the tragic death of late Tallang. AEKSU in its condolence message to bereaved family prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Further, the union has appealed to the authority to have proper investigation to nab the culprits and book them under appropriate sections.

Dead bodies found under mysterious circumstances

PASIGHAT, Apr 30: Dead bodies of a girl and boy were found under mysterious circumstances, who were reportedly missing together since April 19 from Mebo, East Siang.

The body of the girl was found around Partung area on the banks of Siang River on April 21, while the body of the boy was located along the Siang along Assam-Arunachal boundary after a massive search operation on April 25.

According to police sources, they had gone missing with the vehicle of the boy's uncle, which was recovered from Raneghat-Bodak Trans-Arunachal Highway on April 20. The belongings of the boy, including his wallet and phone were found intact inside the vehicle.

Police has registered a case. The post mortem reports are still awaited to ascertain the cause of the death.

Cancel agri-horti subsidy: Kisan Sangh

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Claiming it to be eyewash, the Arunachal Pradesh Bharatiya Kisan Sangh has called for cancellation of agriculture and horticulture department subsidy for the year 2015-16.

All the machines/appliances which were subscribed under the government subsidy are more than the actual market rate or company rate. It is not helping any of the farmers, it wrote in its representation to the Governor terming the policy anti-farmer.

Alleging that the farmers willing to avail the scheme were not allowed to choose the brand of machine/appliance which badly affected the small time farmers, the Sangh expressed displeasure that various representations to the authorities regarding its concern have yielded no result.

Drug peddlers arrested, heroin seized

PASIGHAT, Apr 30: Two drug peddlers with 9grams of Heroin have been arrested from Oyan village on Friday by Sille Police under East Siang District.

The drug peddlers have been identified as Sobir Pao of Oyan village and Abhijeet Gogoi of Namsing village. A case has been registered under NDPS Act against the duo.

Recently, Pao had escaped during a raid by police and members of Women Against Social Evil. Police (WASE).

Meanwhile, the WASE team has lauded the sincerity and dedication of police team led by SI V Lowang for the investigation and arresting the drug peddlers.

DC calls for self regulatory measures

PASIGHAT, Apr 30: East Siang Deputy Commissioner Isha Khosla appealed to the consumers to use power judiciously, efficiently and adopt self regulatory measures to minimize consumption.

Addressing a one-day district level training on judicious and efficient use of energy conducted by Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA), Pasighat at JNC College auditorium on Saturday, Khosla advised consumers to use ACs, microwaves and other electrical appliances only when required, and to keep all equipments switch off when not in use. She also advised to use energy efficient electric gadgets like LED bulb etc to save electricity.

She urged Panchayat leaders and Councilors to create awareness on judicious use of energy at every level and to spread the message of energy efficiency and its conservation among the consumers.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need of conducting more such awareness and training programmes in remote areas of the district.

ZPC Kaling Dai in his brief speech urged the PRI leaders to extend their fullest cooperation to APEDA in making East Siang a model district.

Earlier, APEDA Project Officer Kape Badak spoke in details of the need to conserve energy to meet the future demands and its role in economic front.

The event is being organized by Itanagar Jazz Society along with Dream Catcher Events.

International Jazz Day is a yearly event held on April 30 organized by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to celebrate music for peace, unity and enhanced cooperation among people.

Jazz Guitarist Pranai Rai, Pianist Utsav Lal and Indian Finger style guitar player, singer-songwriter Taba Chake performed along with Matteo Fraboni and Mana Dhanraj during the event.

Earlier, in the day the artists interacted with media persons at Press Club here and shared on Jazz music.

Mana Dhanraj, a Bangalore based Jazz artist said that at some level using Jazz as a tool for education is extremely important. Use of music, as a form of education enhances the ability to learn, it teaches people to think creatively and think out of box"

Irrespective of genre, music is constantly pushing people to evolve to look at the world differently, she added.

International artists Matteo Fabroni Quartet in his remark stated that Jazz music is most democratic language. He further opined that music is the best tool to educate people.

Works on Bam-Aalo road stretch to start soon: DC

AALO, Apr 30: West Siang Deputy Commissioner, Pige Ligu stated that the pathetic road condition is a problem for all citizens of West Siang and outsiders, and all efforts are being made from the district administration to start the construction works keeping in touch with the state and central Govt. agencies.

The DC was speaking at an urgent meeting called with members of the West Siang Trans Arunachal Highway Monitoring Committee at his Office Chamber on Saturday. Appealing the members of the Monitoring Committee to call off the proposed series of bandhs, the DC said that it will affect the local people. The construction of the road stretch may start by May last or June as everything has been finalized to carry out the construction works.

On part of the committee, Kento Ete, Doi Ado, Mito Lollen and Deba Loya said that the road Aalo-Bam road has deteriorated to such a pitiful extent after handing it over to the State PWD by the BRTF, and people cannot suffer for a long time. The initial Chakka Bandh on May 3 is an effort towards drawing the attention of government and calling it off will depend on the tangible assurance and start of the work.

DLR&SO Pumek Ronya, AE Highways, Gemar Padu and EE PWD, D. Lona informed and explained in detail regarding land acquisition, progress of highway works and placement of Rs.1 crore for maintenance allocated during the month of March and proposed works.

Aalo police cracks burglary cases

AALO, Apr 30: Acting upon series of complaints on theft and burglary cases from Govt. offices and private individuals since March, Aalo Police have arrest one Nyai Tali.

The burglaries were committed at Govt. H.S School, General Hospital, BDO, DHO, DDI and DDSE offices, while refrigerator, gas cylinders, generators, clothes, utensils, fans, large number of computer sets and laptops with accessories were recovered from different locations by the police.

The police team led by OC Olik Tamut, SI M.Geyi, SI T.Tali, SI W.Rongrang, SI T. Tinknok, Constables Doi Bagra, G.Loya, N.Linggi, K.Tamut, A.Diyum and K.Akar investigated the case and apprehended the thief. The burglar was trained in Delhi in web design through skill development prog. On interrogation by the police, Tali who is under lock up divulged the fact that he was committing the thefts for a year after coming back from Delhi.

Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police, M Riba has appealed the people not to purchase or take any stolen items without authentication. DIPRO

'Impeachment of PMC chief illegal'

PASIGHAT, Apr 30: Four Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councilors of Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) have termed the impeachment of Chief Councilor Denong Tamuk as 'illegal' and 'forceful'.

The BJP councilors, namely Osi Yosung (Boring), Kangge Moyong, Tagom Doming and Makpak Peyang, who stood by Tamuk and are strongly opposing the move , stated that the 'rebel' group comprising Deputy Chief Kaling Darang, Ponung Lego, Kaling Doruk and Maglek Yomsoh effected the impeachment motion with support of three Independent Councilors, which is illegal.

Tamuk's group, who enjoy majority in number with five councilors, say the Independent Councilors do not have right to play any decisive role in the move since it is party's internal matter.

In the 12- member Municipal Council, there are nine BJP councilors.

Impeached Chief Councilor Denong Tamuk on April 28 (on the day of impeachment) submitted a petition to East Siang Deputy Commissioner informing about his ill health and pleaded to postpone the 'No confidence Motion'. The four BJP councilors, who stood by Tamuk, too had submitted petition urging the authority to postpone the move.

It may be recalled that the four BJP councilors, who are in the rebel group, had earlier leveled allegation of corruption against Tamuk and triggered the impeachment motion against him. But the deposed Chief Councilors and his supporters have rubbished the allegation. They blamed BJP's unhealthy political interference for the unrest.

Substantial information reveals that East Siang district BJP Committee led by Tamat Jonnom constituted a 'Crisis Management Committee' for pacification of two factions of BJP in the 12-member urban body. The committee after failing to solve the crisis had referred the matter to the State BJP Committee.

The State BJP committee on April 25 issued whip to all the nine BJP councilors (including Tamuk) with an instruction to vote against the impeachment motion and support the leadership of Tamuk.

Pakke Tiger Reserve recognises service of Frontline forest watchers

Annual camera trapping photography prizes awarded

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Pakke Tiger Reserve felicitated frontline forest watchers for exceptional camera-trapping photographs and for their service to conservation of the tiger reserve.

This year, the best entry was won by Langka anti-poaching camp for a spectacular video of a black leopard with two cubs - one black and the other spotted.

Namest (East) camp won the second place with a photograph of a black leopard and red jungle fowl in the same frame.

The third place was awarded to Diji camp for a close up photograph of a marbled cat.

The prizes were awarded to the winners at a function at Conservation Hall in Seijosa organized by Divisional Forest Officer, Pakke Tiger Reserve Tana Tapi.

Late Karo Tayem, a forest guard was posthumously honoured for his exemplary dedication to Pakke Tiger Reserve.

Tayem was a forest guard. He won the best camera-trap photograph award in 2013 for a stunning photograph of Pakke's oldest tiger snarling at the camera.

Tayem sacrificed his life in the call of duty as he was killed by a wild elephant on his way back from duty to his camp in 2014.

This was the tenth year since camera trapping started in Pakke, and fittingly the programme was held in Karo Tayem's honour.

Each year, forest staff in Pakke conduct wildlife surveys in which infra-red cameras placed in the forest are used to count tigers and record other wildlife. Teams from every anti-poaching camp in Pakke compete for the best photographs or videos, and receive certificates and cash awards.

"This programme is mainly for my staff to see the fruits of their data collection efforts towards counting tigers and of course its a great team building exercise", said Tana Tapi.

In addition to the camera trapping awards, prizes were presented to the best forest staff from Tippi and Seijosa range.

Kampu Kino and Suren were awarded for being the best worker in Seijosa and Tippi range.

Dharmeshwar Saikia, the oldest and most experienced mahut in Pakke, won the award for the best mahut.

Wildlife Trust of India gave a certificate of appreciation to Ako Pacho for his role in rescue of bear cubs.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) presented the awardees with equipment such as sleeping bags and backpacks.

Earlier, PCCF and Principal Secretary GN Sinha released a book on 'Ten Years of Camera Trapping in Pakke'. Pakke's field diary showcases its annual activities.

"The inspiring story of its dramatic turnaround may be emulated by other park managers in Arunachal Pradesh," exhorted Sinha.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Hero Corporation Ltd., in partnership with WWF, donated six Hero Xtreme motorcycles to the Pakke Tiger Reserve for use them in patrolling purposes.

Three short films on various activities of Pakke Tiger Reserve, which highlighted both biodiversity and the dedication of Pakke's forest staff towards conservation, were screened and can be accessed on youtube and Pakke's facebook page.

Also present on the occasion were APCCF R Saikia, DFO Nameri Tiger Reserve and VK Jawal, DFO Khellong Forest Division.

Officers and officials from the forest department, administration, army and general public, Gaon Burras from the Ghora Aabhe Society, Village Foresst Development Council members, panchayat members who are active partners in Pakke's conservation also attended the function.

Rajkhowa advocates for small food processing units

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh JP Rajkhowa has called for establishing at least one food processing unit in each district, and then sub-divisions followed by at block levels.

Rajkhowa said the food processing unit should not be multi-crore projects but small food preservation and caning centres and suggested that Self Help Groups must be involved. It will facilitate the farmers to sell their produce at their doorsteps. Such units should not be run by the department, instead, government departments must act as a catalyst, provide trainings and assistance to the entrepreneurs and SHGs in processing project profiles, said the Governor.

The Governor also called for encouraging local entrepreneurs in setting up of modern rice mills, so that the rice produced by local farmers are procured, processed in those mills and mechanism may be explored so that Food Corporation of India procures it and supply it under Public Distribution System.

Giving a patient hearing to the problems of the farmers presented by Bharatiya Kishan Sangh, state unit president, Thakali Tamut and Secretary Ngurang Tadap, the Governor said that there must be absolute transparency in procurement of farm tools and machineries, invite national tender and farmers' must be given choice in selection of farm machineries.

While emphasising on organic farming, the Governor advised the State Government and its officials to promote organic farming and encourage NGOs to conduct campaigns and awareness programmes in big way. He also advised on seed production and procurement.

The Governor advised that inter-sectoral meeting must be conducted along with Agriculture and allied sector and Industries, especially Skill Development must be conducted for fruitful ventures.

Earlier, Commissioner (Agri & Horti) and the departmental officers briefed the Governor on the various issues and challenges including decline in production of citrus fruits etc.

The Governor was interacting with the representatives of Bharatiya Kishan Sangh, Siang People's Forum and Siang Organic Initiative at Raj Bhavan on Saturday. Commissioner (Agri & Horti), Hage Khoda, Consultant (Agriculture), A.K. Orgs throw weight behind SI Jomoh, call for rule of law to prevail

ITANAGAR, April 30: In a joint press conference, Jomoh Welfare Society (JMS), Arunachal Karate Association and Arunachal Sports Youth Association made an appeal to the organisations to let the investigation go smoothly and the law take its own course of action over alleged police brutality case at Nirjuli on April 9.

The Tana Youth Forum and Anti Corruption and Crime Control Committee Organisations have been demanding the authority to take action against SI P. Nobin Jomoh alleging him of mercilessly beating up Tana Tado and Tana Rasso.

Addressing the media persons at press club here JWS Chairman Pitam Jomoh termed the allegation of police brutality as false and fabricated, instead he appealed to the organisations to verify the facts before coming to any conclusion. The society further said that enquiry committee reports should come out first until then organisations should stop media campaign to malign hard-earned image of Police Officer P. Nobin Jomoh.

The society also appealed to the organisations not to publish false and fabricated information just to tarnish someone's hard-earned image. It further expressed concern that an efficient and dedicated police officer like Nobin Jomoh is unnecessarily being harassed for discharging his duty.

Arunachal Karate Do Association, President Likha Tara requested the organisations not to drag sports (karate) name again and again.

"No doubt Nobin is a decorated sports person but it doesn't mean organisations keep on dragging the name of the Sports into the case" Tara added. Arunachal Sports Youth Association President Tagung Neri also said that maligning Nobin's name even before the enquiry reports is out is not acceptable.

Meanwhile, Nobin Jomoh reiterated that all allegations and charges are false rather it is well-planned conspiracy to malign the image of Arunachal Pradesh Police by targeting him.

He further expressed anguish saying that he has been portrayed as an oppressor and accused of torturing the two. In a written statement, he claimed that he has received death threat.

Nominations valid

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Nomination papers of all the three candidates, who are in the fray for Kanubari Assembly Constituency by poll, were found to be valid after scrutiny on Saturday, informed Deputy Chief Electoral Officer DJ Bhattacharjee.

Gabriel Denwang Wangsu, who resigned as MLA of the constituency, filed his nomination as a Peoples' Party of Arunachal (PPA) contestant while Jyae Wangsu submitted his papers as a Congress candidate and Wangrang Wangjen as an Independent.

RGU appeals for bandh delay

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Apprehending that the proposed Capital bandh on May 2 given by All Arunachal Contractors' Welfare Association (ACWA) may disturb in smooth conduct of examinations, the students and authority of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) have appealed to the bandh callers to defer their bandh until the examinations are over.

The semester examinations of all PG courses and in colleges affiliated with RGU across the state will be starting on May 2 as per academic calendar of the university which was notified in advance in 2015, the Controller of Examination informed in a release.

If not called off, the university buses carrying students for appearing in the examination should be exempted from the purview of the bandh, the release said.

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Chief Minister Kalikho Pul will hold "Public Durbar" on second Saturday of every month from 10.30 am onwards at his to hear the grievances of citizens, if he is not pre-occupied on that particular day.

Practice Yoga for stress free life: MLA

ZIRO, Apr 30: Ziro-Hapoli MLA Tage Taki advised all to practice Yoga for stress free life.

Yoga is above all religions and can be practised and professed by people from all walks of life and religious background, the MLA said after inaugurating a Yoga Studio at Hapoli on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner Kemo Lollen, who was also present in the function, volunteered himself for Yoga sessions.

Hage Tado Naniya, a Yoga practitioner, shared her experience how yoga and proper breathing techniques improved her health conditions.

Medical Officer (Ayur) Dr. Hage Bamin threw light on the origin of Yoga and its association with Ayurveda.

Former MLA Nani Ribiya also spoke on the occasion.

Yoga sessions would commence from May 3 in two batches.

Michi Yarang, who would be leading the Yoga team, is well trained in Hatha Yoga. She has also travelled to Italy, Canada and Turkey for teaching yoga and has also participated in various international yoga festivals. Currently, she is working as a faculty member in IGTAMSU University. DIPRO

Cleanliness drive

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Cleaning drives and awareness campaigns were conducted by the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (POWERGRID) at NERIST Campus and P-Sector in Nirjuli on Saturday as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.

POWERGRID has further pledged to contribute 55000 man-hours within the year to the campaign throughout the country. Apart from staffs of the POWERGRID, students and faculties of NERIST also took part in the cleanliness drive.

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh JP Rajkhowa announced ex-gratia of Rs.1 lakh to the nearest of kin of the young girl and small baby who lost their lives in the storm at Diyun circle in Changlang district from Governor's Relief Fund.

He has condoled the death of two children.
